Measure OVER the breast

Measuring The Patient

How To Measure The Upper Chest

The breastbone sits high on the chest and most of its length is above the armpits. It is therefore a challenge to stabilize this position on the body. An extensive biomechanical study done in the Heart Center of Vienna discovered the exact pressure necessary for this stabilization, and opened the door to perfecting the Posthorax support vest design. The vest works precisely on that high, difficult-to-reach position.

To guarantee a perfect fit for the Posthorax vest, it is vital to measure this area properly.

How to measure the upper chest area

Interestingly enough, the difference in body shape between slim and X-large is not on the top of the chest. Also, the chest bone does not vary in length too much from person to person. We know from experience that the breastbone is almost always between 18 and 22 centimeters long.

Measuring for the support vest must be done as high under the armpit as possible because the vest must be placed in this position. Try to be as precise as possible in positioning the measuring tape.

The vest is available in numerous different sizes to cater to all body shapes.

Because the vest is a medical device and regulatory safety measures must be adhered to, the vest cannot be used by another patient once the vacuum seal of the package has been broken. This is to prevent the potential spread of bacteria and/or viruses as a result of sharing. Once a vest has been opened, it can only be used by the patient who opened it and no one else. Measuring precisely to at least a couple of centimeters is imperative to avoid wastage.

How to fit the Posthorax vest

Fortunately, fitting the vest is very easy. The best way to explain it is through a simple tutorial video we prepared here:

You will, however, need someone else’s help fitting the vest the first time you use it. Once all its straps are aligned correctly you can then open it in the front with the buckles and velcro and put it back on without the need to adjust each side’s shoulder strap every time.

How to wash the Posthorax vest

The vest can be washed as part of your regular washing load at home. Apply all standards as usual for cotton washing and drying. Do not overheat the vest because the cushions in it will crumble and lose their shape, and the vest will need to be replaced.
